I don’t know about your house but in our house, Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwiches are a BIG deal! My kids beg for them daily. Sometimes when I’m running out the door I don’t have time to make one which is why I have found a way to make them ahead of time, freeze them, and when they are thawed my kids have NO idea I made them days or weeks ago!
I’m always on the lookout for ways to make my family nutritious food but considering that we are all major foodies- I never want to sacrifice taste. We are LOVING Oroweat Organic White Made with Whole Wheat Bread. It tastes incredibly delicious (soft and smooth texture), it’s sustainably baked, my picky-eater kids love it, and they have Disney’s Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse on the packaging so could it get any better?
So here’s how I prepare our freezer-friendly peanut butter and jelly sandwiches:
Step 1-
Coat each side of bread with peanut butter- this acts as a “raincoat” for the jelly. I have never had jelly soak through the bread if I coat my bread with peanut butter properly.
Step 2-
Put a spoonful of jelly right in the middle of one side of bread.
Step 3-
Sandwich the two pieces together and press down firmly.
Step 4-
It’s always fun to grab a cookie cutter and cut the sandwiches into fun shapes. If you choose to do this take a fork and press down around the edges to seal the peanut butter and jelly inside the bread. If I don’t seal it I have found that the peanut butter and jelly do leak out.
Step 5-
Place your sandwich inside its own sandwich bag. I love these reusable ones! They are very sturdy and perfect for the freezer.
And you are done! Easy peasy and SO fast to take on the go. These sandwiches thaw quickly, I pull them out about 30 minutes before we need to eat them. They are GREAT for school lunches too because if you pull one out in the morning- they will be thawed by the time your child is eating lunch at school.
