My number one skin care brand that I use to moisturize my skin in the winter time is Dove, they did sponsor this post but I didn’t even have to go and purchase the product to take pictures for this post…because I already had them in my bathroom drawer. I use them EVERY SINGLE DAY and I swear by them- sponsored or not!
Winter time in Utah causes me to have some major dry skin, every single year! It has taken me a few years to learn how to fight it but over the last year I have FINALLY figured out what works for my skin! If you get dry skin in the winter time like I do then I have my 5 best (and very simple) tips for winter skincare survival that will leave your skin feeling nice and moisturized all winter long!
Dove has a Dermatologist on staff to make sure their customers are getting the very best products for their skin, her name is Dr. Alicia Barba and she wrote an awesome article with skin care advice that has helped me so much with my winter skincare routine!
Without further adieu, here are my (and Dr. Barba’s) best tips for winter skincare survival:
1. Invest in a hydrating cleanser.
Dry skin is very annoying and uncomfortable but even worse- it can lead to serious skin problems such as worsening of eczema, psoriasis and can be a major cause of winter itch. Use a hydrating cleanser and make sure to moisturize the skin after cleansing or gently exfoliating. My absolute favorite hydrating cleanser to use is the Dove white beauty bar.
2. Care for your underarms.
Underarm skin is sensitive and an area that shouldn’t be overlooked- especially during winter! Fabrics in sweaters, underwear and t-shirts can irritate the skin. Underneath all those layers, you absolutely need a product that keeps you hydrated and protected, Dr. Barba says. Dove Advanced Care Antiperspirant not only provides 48-hour odor and wetness protection, it is formulated with moisturizers to help alleviate irritation and leave you with softer and smoother underarms. 3. Get into a bedtime routine.
Bedtime is the best time to hydrate your skin, it’s also the time of day that I spend MOST of my time caring for my skin. If you’re looking to decrease collagen breakdown (and keep that youthful glow for longer!), you might want to consider these three quick steps, recommended by Dr. Barba before hitting the hay: 1. Wash your face. 2. Apply a retinol. 3. Moisturize.
4. Use sunscreen for all seasons.
Keep the sunscreen right next to your daily moisturizer- no matter the time of year. You might want to even consider switching to a moisturizing sunscreen. Harmful UV rays don’t take a break for cold weather. Even if you’re bundled up, sunscreen is a must for your face, and any other skin that’s not covered up.
5. Take special care of your lips.
Don’t forget moisturizing your lips! I don’t know about your but when my lips get chapped, I feel miserable and then it takes forever from me to get them back moisturized again- this is a big huge problem for me especially in the winter time! I have found that if I apply a chapstick before bed every single night I don’t have to worry about getting chapped lips and it’s life changing!
Do you have dry winter skin? What are your best winter skin care survival tips? I would love to hear!
