I don’t know about you, but since having Evie I have had the hardest time unwinding at the end of the day. It seems like the mama in me just can’t seem to relax. It’s probably because often there is a ton of pressure on moms to always be on their “A game”, to always have everything together. But after a few mental break downs and late night tear sessions, I have come to the conclusion that is just not physically possible to have everything together 24/7. Mom’s have got to give themselves a break! Which is why I have come up with my 3 favorite ways to unwind and de-stress (written especially for mom’s). Above all else, if you are a mama desperately needing some encouragement…please remember how amazing you are. You are doing the very best you can and that is all ANYONE should expect from you…ESPECIALLY yourself (we truly are our worst critic).
1. Mommy Happy Hour
Every single week give yourself 1 hour that is ALL FOR YOU. If you have a hubby or partner that is able to take the kids, great! If not, get a sitter. It’s that important. This hour is crucial and needs to be scheduled each and every week. Whether that be an exercise class that you go to, girls night out, a pedicure, grocery shopping ALONE, or (my personal favorite) watching your favorite TV show uninterrupted with a delicious snack…for me that would be watching This Is Us while eating OREO THINS, no joke you guys, it’s an obsession (the OREO THINS Mint are BEYOND yummy but OREO THINS Original flavor is delicious too!). Whatever it is, do it and make it important because YOU and your sanity is worth that.
Right now you can earn mulah ever time you purchase these delicious OREO THINS. Cha ching!
2. Get ready every single day
I’m not talking about spending hours in the bathroom putting on a full face of glamorous makeup and curling your hair perfectly…no no no aint nobody got time fo dat! I’m talking about taking a shower, regardless of if you need to duct tape your kids to the wall (kidding) and run into the shower for a quick 2 minute wet down, putting on a little bit of foundation and a dab of mascara…maybe even some blush if you’re feeling crazy. If I go a day without getting ready I feel so… BLAH- that is the best way to put it. Even though I spent the whole day working and taking care of my babe, it feels like I hardly got anything done and THAT stresses me out. So believe it or not, if I get ready I feel less stress and it helps me unwind at the end of the day better.
3. Relax Time Ritual each night
I know what you’re thinking, ” I don’t have time. By the time I finally get the kids in bed I just want to drop into my own bed!”. I get it, that is why I am suggesting that this “ritual” be 2 minutes long- at the most. Have it be something that you do that is that is technology free and relaxing. Here are some of my favorite ideas for your Relax Time Ritual:
- Before you do anything else, change into comfy clothes (take off that bra…let the girls free! :))
- Plan part of your next Mommy Happy Hour.
- Write down in a journal or simple notebook your favorite thing that happened that day. You can find my quick and easy tutorial on making your own cheap and easy fabric covered notebook here.
- Run your feet under warm water by the tub. You would be amazed with how relaxing this is when you don’t have time for a bath or shower right at the moment.
- Read one page of your favorite book.
If you want to try out the OREO THINS you can find them in every flavor (OREO THINS Original• OREO THINS Mint• OREO THINS Golden• OREO THINS Lemon• OREO THINS Chocolate) at Walmart in the cookie isle!
What is your favorite way to unwind and de-stress? I would love some new ideas!
