3 Ways To Transition Summer Dresses Into Fall

September 19, 2016 by whitjxoxo

Fall is upon us and I can’t say that I’m made about it at all! However, the days are still so warm here in Utah so I haven’t officially kissed summer goodbye…yet :).

As you know, I am a big lover of transitional clothing items. I don’t like to spend a lot on clothes (or really anything) so when I buy things I like to be able to use it for multiple occasions. Dresses are one of those things that are nice because its a whole outfit in one however it also can sometimes be hard to take dresses and make them wearable for more than just once season! That is why I’m sharing my 3 favorite ways to be able to take a summer dress and still wear it in the fall!

1. Put on a jacket or use a button up to wrap around your waist.

This is one of the my favorite ways to “Fall-up” a dress! The jackets and button ups around your waist are still all the rage and I don’t know about you but I love that it helps me create a more defined waist (mommy problems, am I right??), especially in dresses that are more flowey.

I did that exact thing with a simple plaid button up and this fun olive maxi dress from Sign Here. I LOVE this dress, its so comfy and so transitional! It would even look way cute with a denim or leather jacket over top.

It’s even totally acceptable to add a denim or leather jacket to a more fancy dress like the one below! This gorgeous dress is from Rockyway Shop Stevie and not only is it gorgeous but its also NURSING FRIENDLY! Can I get an amen??

This perfectly lacy dress is from Jacey Lane and the adorable leather jacket is from Ivy City Co. The leather jacket has been my favorite transitional clothing piece that I own this year!

2. Add some bootay!

Not literal bootie here, the ones that go on your feet aka…my favorite Fall accessory ever! My hubs seriously has to keep inventory of the booties that I have so I don’t keep buying the same ones over again. I am what you call obsessed. Booties are the easiest way to “Fall-up” any outfit. Put on a pair of cute booties and you are good to go! I made all three of these dresses Fall worthy by adding a simple bootie. I got the ones pictures below from Simply Sage Market they have the cutest clothes and accessories!

These cute booties I got from Amazon. They are the perfect height, not too high but still high enough to make you feel like you actually have heels on. You can find them here.

3. Tie it all together with a felt hat.

I think this may be the 5th time I have blogged about my love for hats. They are the perfect accessory to be able to make any dress or outfit fit the season you are dressing for! One thing I have noticed for hats though is that you do need to pay attention to what type of hat you are wearing for what type of season! For example, a straw hat is more of a summer hat. It is something you can see yourself wearing to the beach or on a picnic. A felt hat however, creates much more of a Fall look! So when you are looking for the perfect hat for Fall, look for one made out of felt or one that has a more neutral color!

The thing I love about these three ways to “Fall up” your outfit is that they are simple. You could easily get away with doing all three of them if you wanted to!
