When my husband proposed to me (almost 6 years ago…where has the time gone?!) he put my ring in the tiniest, most adorable, pair of pink baby shoes and gave me the most beautifully written letter about our anxiously awaited future together. From the second I met him, I couldn’t wait to see him become a father. He’s one of those people that has a special gift when it comes to knowing how to love someone in just the way they need. I can’t wait for him to love our baby girl just like he’s loved me…unconditionally and absolutely perfectly.
Aren’t those the most adorable little shoes you have ever seen?!
This Fathers Day is a very special one for us. With baby girl soon to make her debut (4 weeks to be exact…but who’s counting :)) my hubs is about to join the new fathers club and I couldn’t be happier about it. I’ve been trying to find something really special to celebrate him this fathers day and I started to realize just how much fathers kind of get the short end of the stick when it comes to Fathers day vs. Mothers day. I feel like people go all out to celebrate mothers and fathers can kind of be an after thought.
Thank goodness American Greetings were thinking the exact same thing as me and made a special effort this year to create an abundance of fathers day cards. I’m serious people, I was in Walmart for over an hour thumbing through hundreds of cards that were absolutely perfect for my hubs, my father, and my father in law. They have humorous to sentimental cards, plus everything in between.
Before I got married I didn’t put a huge emphasis on cards for Father’s or Mother’s Day. I would always try to do something special for my parents on Father’s and Mother’s Day but getting them a card was rare. Cards were always a big deal to my hubs and his family so after about a year of marriage with him, I realized just how much cards and the words contained in them can mean. Most gifts come and go but cards are what I have saved over the years and read over and over again. American Greetings cards from WalMart are absolutely essential for giving that special man in your life a memorable, sentimental gift for Father’s Day.
Now for my DIY Daddy Diaper Toolbox…This would be the perfect gift for a new father on father’s day or for a baby shower. I added a few funny items to make the new father or father to be laugh and also a few practical items that they will most definitely need for those late night diaper changings :).
I put this whole toolbox together, American Greetings cards and gift packaging included, for under $30, with items that I found at Walmart while grocery shopping. It was easy peazy and I loved that I could personalize the items rather than buying a pre made daddy toolbox (and dropping at least $50).
Included Items:
For Fun:
- Ear/Nose plugs
- Safety Glasses
- Gloves
- Masks
- DIY “Daddy Diaper Duty” tool belt
- DIY “You’ve Got This, Dad” onesie
For Reals:
- Diapers
- Wipes
- Desitin
- Baby Powder
- Baby Lotion
- Anti-Bacterial Handwipes
- “My 1st Year With Dad” photo album.
The “Daddy Diaper Duty” tool belt and the “You’ve Got This, Dad” onesie were so easy to make, I almost feel like they shouldn’t be considered DIY. I bought Painters Pens. They work on any surface and are so easy to use. I got two different colors and bam! Wrote on the onesie and tool belt…like I said, easiest thing I’ve ever done.
To make the toolbox (which was only $3…I know, it blew my mind too!), I got stickers at Walmart and put them on the front. You could also easily grab a white Painters Pen or sharpie to write on it.
And of course…the gift would not be complete without the cutest American Greetings packaging that I got from Walmart.
So, what great ideas do you have for the men in your life this Father’s Day?
