The holidays were always really special at my house growing up. My parents made sure to make sure our home was a haven for us all year long but during the holidays it was the most magical of times; filled with hundreds of traditions, family time, and delicious food galore! One November, when I was 11 years old our whole magical world came crashing down, my mom had just had a baby (a total surprise, the best surprise ever), and my dad got laid off from his job. With two older brothers in high school, one about to serve an LDS Mission, new baby expenses, and the Holidays right around the corner, to say that things were tight would be putting it lightly.
My 11 year old self was all too aware of the problems going on in my world. With the fear of not being able to have the Thanksgiving turkey I was used to, I ran the “Turkey Trot” at my school in hopes of winning the big turkey as the first place prize. I came in second and was completely heart broken. I ran home to my mom and cried for what felt like days. I told her I was going to win our family a turkey and couldn’t believe I failed. She cried with me and told me that no matter what we would have a turkey on Thanksgiving. That night our doorbell rang and on the porch was a box full of food, a complete Thanksgiving dinner to be exact, turkey and all. I couldn’t even believe it, I was sure that angels dropped that food off.
Of course life went on and things got better financially for my family but no matter what happens in my life I will never forget that year and the true angels among us who served my family. I challenge you to find some way to serve someone else this time of year. You never quite know what someone might be going through and what an act of service, no matter how small, might do for them.
I have my super easy under 5 minute smokey eye and two step facial contouring method that is perfect for your holiday parties! Sometimes I don’t have time to head home before I have to be looking holiday party ready. I love this look because it’s something I can do fast right when I am done with work.
Here is a list of products I used in my tutorial, all of them are from Milani:
Fierce Foil Eyeliner – This is a fantastic two in one product, use it to create this effortless smokey eye and/or as eyeliner. It is blackened with jewel tones to create a perfectly shiny jewel finish. It comes with a nice custom pro brush.
Stay Put Brow – I love the brow pomade formula for easy application. I’m wearing color “Medium brown”. It also comes with a dual-ended, professional brush.
Eyeshadow Primer – This primer is amazing, it turns every shadow into 8 hr wear, non sticky or flaky, color intensified, eye shadow.
Color Statement Lipstick – This lipstick not only hydrates your lips (infused with vitamins A and C) but it’s intense color actually stays on. I’m wearing color “Tuscan Toast”
Supreme Kohl Kajal Eyeliner– I did not include this in my tutorial but I did in my pictures (below) it’s perfect for creating an even more dramatic look. It delivers intense black color even to your inner waterline. There’s really no place on your eye that this eyeliner can’t reach. I love it!
I bought all of these products at CVS in their makeup section, I am so impressed with their selection and their awards program! Every single time I shop there I get money off (now that’s beauty on a budget!).
So what is your favorite look to wear around the holidays? I would love to see how you create it with Milani Cosmetics!
